Assessment of Steel Supply Chain
Our audit work has covered the entire supply steel supply chain from Steel mills to Fabricators. Since 2021 we have assessed more than one hundred sites against the Environmental Sustainability Charter and Steel Sustainability Australia (SSA) certification scheme. Through desktop assessments we have verified the conformance of steel mills from Bluescope Steel, Infrabuild, Liberty steel, Hyundai Steel Company and others against the SSA requirements for Steel Feedstock Manufacturing suppliers which covers EPD’s compliant to EN 15084, decarbonisation programs, environmental management and water use and reduction.
Assessment Levels for Steel Manufacturers and Fabricators
Manufacturers and Fabricators using steel products such as hot rolled coil, cold rolled coil, hot rolled structural beams and columns, merchant bar, reinforcing bar, are assessed to levels 1, 2A, 2B and 3 of the SSA requirements. Desktop audits assess conformance against 5 principles and 15 credits covering good governance, responsible production, health and safety, positive impacts through responsible steel sourcing and carbon emission reduction and Circular outcomes from resource management.
Assessment of Infrabuild’s Steel Recycling and EAF Mills
We have assessed Infrabuild’s steel recycling and electric arc furnace (EAF) mills and reinforcing bar and mesh plants on the east coast of Australia against the GECA Steel and Steel Products SSPv1.0i-2019. The assessment involved a desktop assessment and on-site inspection at steel mills and reinforcing steel manufacturing sites to assess raw material inputs against health and material efficiency requirements, processes against environmental management systems and emissions criteria, product and packaging against product stewardship criteria and review documents and interview workers to social and legal compliance criteria.
