Assessing Packaging Compliance with the ARL

Working with APCO we have assessed more than 1,000 packaging items for compliance of the application of the Australasian Recycling Label (ARL) by brand owners. Packaging items assessed include cardboard, glass, aluminium, HDPE, LDPE, polypropylene and a combination of those materials.

Desktop assessments are completed of a brand owners’ materials specifications and assessments of the correct ARL based on outputs from the PREP tools and the evaluation of packaging artwork for the correct ARL, recycling information and the design and composition of the ARL.

Auditing Recycled Content and Packaging Claims

In 2021 we conducted pilot assessments of glass packaging facility in South Australia and polypropylene packaging facility in Melbourne and the recycled content of packaging to draft APCO Recycled Content Traceability Standard (RCTS). We have assessed LDPE packaging and satchels to the GECA Recycled Products Standard involving both desktop and on-site assessment of manufacturing facilities to verify the origin and type of recycled content, material traceability and chain of custody and production data to validate environmental and recycled content claims.

Our Auditors also have experience auditing Material Recycling Facilities (MRF’s) and pulp and paper manufacturers to verify claims of recycled paper and cartonboard to forestry certification schemes.
